Thermal energy storage (TES) system are used around the world by schools, hospitals, businesses and other facilities that circulate chilled water to provide air conditioning. Over the past 3 years, we at commercial Cool-Temp have installed such units for different application purposes.

In a Thermal Energy Storage (TES) system, a storage medium is chilled during periods of low cooling demand, and the stored cooling is used later to meet air-conditioning load. A TES system shifts cooling energy use from on-peak hours to off-peak hours because they chill a storage media such as water, during periods of low cooling demand for use later to meet air-conditioning loads. Operating strategies are generally classified as either full storage or partial storage, referring to the amount of cooling load transferred from on-peak to off-peak.

TES systems are applicable in most commercial and industrial facilities, but certain criteria must be met for economic feasibility. The economics of thermal storage is very site and system specific, and would Commercial Cool Temp to perform a feasibility study to determine the optimum design for a specific application then we will perform all aspect of the job from design, engineering, fabrication, construction and operator training. TES projects often profit from unexpected benefits that are secondary to the primary reason for implementation. For example, a well designed TES air conditioning application may experience reduced chiller energy consumption, lower pump horsepower, smaller pipes, high reliability, better system balancing and control, and lower maintenance costs.

Thermal Energy Storage combined with a chilled water system will provide a redundancy over all areas requiring temperature control for a fraction of the current energy and maintenance costs, while also providing a back up reserve in case of maintenance or malfunction of the chilled water system.
